BY AIR
The closest major airport to Whistler is Vancouver International Airport (YVR), which is serviced by the world's best airlines.
Flying into Whistler (YWS) resort is possible via Helijet helicopter service, or via floatplane by Whistler Air (summer only). Bear in mind, though, that traveling with these services into Whistler greatly limits the amount of luggage you can bring with you.
The Pemberton Airport, a 30 minute drive north of Whistler, accepts private fixed wing and rotocraft vehicles. There are over 400 landings a year with most of the volume in summer, consisting of fire and rescue vehicles, commercial activity operators, gliders, and local aircraft and helicopter companies. Fuel type available is Jet A and 100 LL. There are no lights or navigational assistance.
Squamish (YSE), about 45 minutes' drive south of Whistler, has a municipal airport and float plane dock.

BY CAR
Drive Yourself
In summer, this is the recommended mode of transportation as it allows you the freedom to explore this beautiful area at leisure!
In winter, however, we strongly recommend either the scheduled shuttle service, or the chauffeured vehicle.
Please be aware that this easy summer drive can be treacherous in winter, and that previous experience driving mountain roads in snow and ice is recommended. All vehicles traveling to the area in winter must be fully winterized - winter or good-condition mud/snow tyres, winter windscreen fluid, and chains* in the trunk. Driving a four-wheel- or all-wheel-drive car, or a sports utility vehicle, does not guarantee that you'll stay on the road - you still need to slow down and take extra care! Remember that you're on vacation - make regular stops to enjoy the scenery to that you don't impede the flow of traffic.
* Not all chains fit all wheels - make sure that your vehicle has the correct size chains before heading out. Be sure you know how to install chains before you hit the road because putting chains on can be tricky, especially when your fingers are cold, and its dark out! If necessary, take the time of practice before departing - the staff at car rental outlets will be pleased to assist if you need help.
